WONDERFUL 1-GALLON OVOID STONEWARE JUG

DESCRIPTION
Beautiful ovoid one-gallon stoneware jug. Impressed with the cobalt-highlighted flower / daisy logo of Boston potter Jonathan Fenton. Rounded, thickened spout. Applied strap handle with cobalt highlights on each end. Germanic-style ovoid form, with coiled clay lines clearly visible.
Jonathan Fenton was born in 1766 in Connecticut. Following his apprenticeship, he moved to Boston and founded the Lynn Street Pottery, working in redware clay. Then in 1801, he settled in Dorset Hollow, Vermont, where he produced Vermont's first salt-glazed stoneware. In 1810, he moved to East Dorset, and worked until he retired and sold the business to his son in 1827.
CONDITION
Overall excellent. Good, intact cobalt design. No hairlines or other fractures. Two small chips on the base edge (all visible in the images). A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF A LATE 18TH CENTURY BOSTON STONEWARE JUG IN REMARKABLY GREAT CONDITION!
