Summary
Large cast‑brass picture frame featuring dramatic pierced acanthus and scrolling foliage in the Rococo Revival taste. The frame presents a raised inner molding of continuous C‑scrolls and retains its original hinged gateleg easel for tabletop display. Openwork allows for easy ribbon or hook mounting for wall display if preferred (hardware not included). Period‑appropriate cardboard backing remains in place.
Dating & Background
Cast‑brass openwork frames of this style were produced in America and Europe from the late Victorian era through the early 20th century. Construction details—sand‑cast reverse, chased face, and integral easel—align with c. 1900–1925 manufacture. The exuberant foliate scrolls reference 18th‑century Rococo design filtered through turn‑of‑the‑century decorative arts.
Collector Notes
Desirable for its substantial scale, crisp casting, and untouched patina. The frame’s silhouette reads strongly on a mantel or console. Survivals in this size with intact easel hardware and original backing are increasingly scarce.
Decorating Ideas
Use for a sepia portrait, cabinet photo, or a small oil on paper. Layers beautifully with marble, velvet, and other gilt accents; works in traditional, Hollywood Regency, or eclectic interiors as a statement frame.
Dimensions
Height 16 1/4 inches
Width 12 1/2 inches

Condition
Very good antique condition with age‑consistent wear: natural patina and scattered tarnish/toning; small rubs to high points; minor edge scuffs; typical sand‑cast texture and casting pits visible on the reverse. Easel hinge sound; openwork shows no breaks. Retains period cardboard backing.
