Five protruding … Read more Design: The design surrounding the tapering ovoid shaped jar details a long whiskered dragon chasing a flaming pearl. Five protruding monkey faces decorate the top part (shoulder) of the jar. Incised wave design surrounds the bottom of jar with a delicate two-line wave pattern incised below the monkey faces.
Color: The leather-inspired deep brown glaze with natural patina created over time indicate antique age. The inside and base of jar is unglazed.
Size: This jar measures 14” across shoulders, 18 1/2” height, a 1” rim, with a 9”opening (mouth).
Age: Similar jars sold at auction indicate these jars date back to the Song to Ming Dynasty. This particular jar does resemble stoneware from China and Southeast Asia made and traded during these eras. Also, the noticeable even patina covering the jar adds a darker color to the incised design indicating the jar to be decades if not centuries old.


The current owner purchased the jar at a garage sale, per the previous owner the item had been passed down; he had it for “many years” before deciding to sell it in a garage sale. See less
