DESCRIPTION
A wonderful folk art kitchen implement, this carved ghurra would encircle the shaft of a butter churn, and allow the paddle to rotate smoothly while churning milk into butter or curd. Over time, these evolved into highly decorative folk art objects, carved with animals, dieties, fertility symbols and other decorations. This one appears to represent a vajra or thunderbolt symbol.
CONDITION
