Decorative boxes have been used for centuries to store valuable items, personal mementos, or as objects of art in themselves. This particular box, with its Art Nouveau-inspired silver inlay, evokes a style popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, characterized by organic, flowing lines and nature motifs. While the subject is historical, it is a contemporary piece in the execution and the overall simplicity of the box's form. Marked at bottom as shown with hand-engraved signature "L. Favorite" for Lawrence Favorite. Nice touch by the artist to inlay turquoise at the bottom of the box where it can't be seen normally!

Artist Larry Favorite was a mechanical engineer on the fast track for success in the business world back in the early 1970s when he decided to leave his business career to pursue a growing interest in art. Forty five years later. Favorite continues to work exclusively with desert ironwood which is only found in the Sonoran Desert in the American southwest. Some of this rare wood has lain dead in the desert between 200 and 1,500 years. Favorite inlays sterling silver and turquoise into the wood. He's lived in various parts of the country, but is now in North Carolina. His work is sold exclusively in art galleries, and he counts many famous people as his clients including former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton. See less
