This sculpture is titled, Batteur, and was designed for a city sculpture installation competition in Chicago in the 1970s. According to the artist's brother, the artist believed that Claes Oldenburg stole her idea and created Bat Column in downtown Chicago. It's a fascinating story and it's certainly possible, since this was the artist's submission.
The bat has intricate etching on each piece of cork or some form of lightweight wood. It is mounted on a round black base and has a brass plaque with title of the sculpture on it. It's a striking, one-of-a-kind piece, with a fascinating backstory.
