Antique mortar and pestle made by Thomas Maddock & Sons (1/0). Impressed marking on the bottom "Warranted T.M. & S. Acid Proof" and "1/0".
The company was originally founded in 1873 under Millington, Astbury & Maddock, changed to Thomas Maddock & Sons in 1882, renamed to Thomas Maddock's Sons Co in 1903 and sold finally the company was sold in 1929.
Mortar is in good vintage condition considering age with 2 very small chips on the lip/spout of the mortar. See pictures.
The matching pestle has a wooden handle with a ceramic tip. Pestle handle and ceramic tip are coming apart, but can be screwed back together. Wood chips to top of handle. See pictures
The mortar is 2.5" high to the top by 4.75" wide, across the top, the pestle is 6.75” long.
