The MR chair was designed by modernist architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in 1927 as part of his contribution to the Weissenhof exhibit in Stuttgart, Germany and was awarded the Museum of Modern Art Award in 1977 and the Design Center Stuttgart Award in 1978. These iconic Bauhaus chairs feature a simple profile, clean lines, and a lack of ornamentation that epitomizes the International Style. The chair’s cantilevered design used chrome-plated tubular steel – an innovative technology at the time – paired with premium leather for the perfect balance of contrasting materials and an intuitively accessible and ergonomic seat.
