This is a beautifully carved wooden box made of hardwood, likely walnut or oak with deep relief carvings with scrolls, acanthus foliage and a geometric border with shell/fan motifs. The interior simplicity and small keyhole escutcheon support its use as a jewelry or storage box.

- The box is heavy and the lid fits and closes as it should. The hinge works as it should. The … moreThe box is heavy and the lid fits and closes as it should. The hinge works as it should. The key is missing. There is some wear to the inside of the box to be expected from age/use. There is a stable crack in the wood on the bottom of the box that runs all the way across and is noticeable on the bottom edges of both ends of the box (please see last 3 photos). There are screws in the bottom that were added at some point to stabilize the wood. I am happy to answer any questions you may have prior to purchase or to send more photos if needed. less
