This antique square sized Persian Mahal Sultanabad carpet (circa 1920) relies heavily on exquisite details as well as large-scale flowers and palmettes. A fine trellis of beautifully colored large and small flowers sprawls across the red field, pulsating with alternating rhythms in contrasting ivory, red, green, salmon pink, and light blue. A crisply drawn arabesque and the ivory detail of the palmettes, flowers and serrated leaves imbue the rug with a beautiful articulation of pattern.
