About the collective: Founded in Valencia in 1965, Equipo Crónica was the artistic collective formed by Rafael Solbes, Manuel Valdés, and initially Juan Antonio Toledo. Closely tied to the movement estampa popular and influenced by critics Vincente Aguilera Cerni and Tomàs Llorens, the group quickly distinguished itself through a figurative language in direct opposition to the abstract aesthetics endorsed under Franco’s regime. After Toledo’s departure, Solbes and Valdés established the collective’s core objective: to create accessible art rooted in everyday imagery, often charged with political and social critique.
