After WWII, Wisconsin and Upper Midwest resort towns commissioned small Northwoods woodworkers to make souvenir pieces from local birch. These were turned on a lathe and deliberately left with the natural bark to signal that the item truly came from the woods. Shops then added location decals for the specific lake or town selling it — in this case, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. The result was a recognizable mid-century regional souvenir: simple, rustic, and closely tied to the postwar road-trip era.
