Description
A glowing amethyst Steuben vase with a soft, rounded body and elegant flared lip, set on a tidy pedestal base. The glass shows that signature Carder-era clarity and depth of color—rich plum in normal light, fading to a lighter claret at the rim. Hand-blown, perfectly balanced, and quietly luxurious.
Dating and Background
Made c. 1920–1930 during Steuben’s celebrated Carder period, when the firm perfected jewel-toned transparent glass. Founded by Frederick Carder and T. G. Hawkes, Steuben became synonymous with American elegance and craftsmanship. This piece captures the era’s refined proportions and “weight without heaviness” design ideal.
Collector Notes
Smaller Carder-era vases remain among the most approachable ways to collect Steuben color. The amethyst tone is one of the most sought after for its warmth and versatility, and examples of this clean, classical form have grown increasingly scarce.
Decorating Ideas
Perfect for a console, mantel, or bookshelf, the vase brings a refined pop of color that plays beautifully with silver, crystal, or wood. Its simple form makes it ideal for both traditional and modern interiors, whether used alone or as part of a tonal grouping.
