Antique hand colored lithograph artwork "Halmaturus Derbianus: Gray" by H.C. Richter. We are proud to announce we have some of these rare and beautiful pieces for sale! We will be listing others from this set - so check out shop if you want different pieces from this same artist. This first addition, hand colored lithograph comes from the first addition of "John Gould's The Mammals of Australia" and features a lovely, hand illustrated scene of "Halmaturus Derbianus" AKA black wallabies. Only 175 sets were issued. The artwork is on rag paper and has been professionally matted and framed. The scene depicted shows a pair of wallabies in their natural environment with exquisite details throughout. The artist captures every detail from the fur to the flora. The famed artist Richter, Henry Constantine, lived from 1821-1902. This piece was created 1845. These supreme finished drawings by the young Richter are the very template of some of the most iconic images which first described and have subsequently come to define Australia. Richter proved the ideal interpreter of Gould's scientific and artistic requirements. Many of his illustrations are the first records of newly discovered species, clearly and accurately depicted in attractive setting.
It would be magnificent on any wall! It can be hung via it's universal metal mounting bracket. The frame is hand caved solid wood with beautiful carved detailing. The matting is mostly white with a small gray accent. The wording a the bottom of the artwork reads from left to right: "H. C. Richter del" "Halmaturus Derbianus: Gray." "C. Hullmandel Imp."
