Original 1930 costume design by Austrian artist Bruno Schrengl (1896–1964), known for his stage and opera collaborations in Vienna, Berlin, and New York. Rendered in white and sepia gouache on warm-toned paper, the work depicts an elegant female figure in court attire, likely a costume concept from Prokofiev’s opera War and Peace. Inscribed in German: “Du bist so eine ernsthafte und große Künstlerin! Meine Verehrung! Bruni. New York Nov. 1930.” (“You are such a serious and great artist! My admiration! Bruni.”)
Framed under glass, overall size 14 × 19 in. Excellent example of early 20th-century stage design with refined Art Deco grace and theatrical poise.
