Incredible Gothic Revival, Art Deco style console table, phone stand, with original bench seat, in very good, original condition condition … Read more Incredible Gothic Revival, Art Deco style console table, phone stand, with original bench seat, in very good, original condition condition showing only light cosmetic wear normal and consistent with age.
The console table is constructed of wrought iron, with decorative cast brass trim, depicting fantastic Greco Roman stylized faces, backed with red velvet fabric. The interior of the case is an unexpected alligator skin textured metal surface in original green paint finish. The back of the interior has a swing open door, probably to accommodate the wiring of a candlestick style telephone, back in the day. The top is an impressive piece of black marble, which anchors the piece both aesthetically and literally.
The set also includes the not often seen matching bench, also constructed of wrought iron and brass, the upholstered seat shows a stain, please see images.
I have seen this model attributed to Oscar Bach, and it may be, however this example is unsigned.
Circa 1910/20’s, probably made in Germany. Perfect for a foyer, entrance hall etc.
