**Thomas Blinks' Original Hunt Scene Watercolor, Signed**
This stunning watercolor painting by Thomas Blinks is matted and framed, complete with an original brass plaque on the front and an art gallery sticker, along with a biography on the reverse side. Titled - "HUNTING SCENE"
What we LOVE about this painting that we think makes it very rare is that he painted a female rider into the scene. Women hunters are extremely underrepresented in early paintings. Not only is she included, but she is also wearing a gorgeous, eye-catching color of blue!
The painting is in excellent condition, having been kept under glass. While the frame is original, it does show some signs of wear; please refer to the accompanying photos for a detailed description.
**Artist Information:**
Thomas Blinks, a foxhunter from a young age, began drawing and sketching scenes of English country life in his childhood. Although his father apprenticed him to a tailor, Blinks ran away to live with his uncle in order to pursue a career in the arts. Eventually, his father reconciled with him, allowing him to continue his artistic pursuits.
Largely self-taught, Blinks gained experience through careful observation of horses, their anatomy, and movement. He was a product of the Victorian era, and his paintings evoke a distinctly English atmosphere. Writer Sally Mitchell notes, “Blinks’ horses show very good action, and he was fond of portraying large, long-limbed ‘blood’ horses. He had a deep love for horses and hounds and exhibited a strong understanding of both in his work.”
Blinks exhibited at the Dudley Gallery in London in 1881, the Royal Society of British Artists in 1882, and by 1883, his work was displayed at the Royal Academy and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.
The work of Thomas Blinks is included in the collections of Her Majesty the Queen, Leicester Museum and Art Gallery, and Preston Manor in Brighton.
Truly one of a kind.
This painting has an early English Ralph Lauren feel!
