For these 8-inch-wide plates, offered here in a set of four, Paris-based ceramic artist and sculptor Claire de Lavallée chose … Read more For these 8-inch-wide plates, offered here in a set of four, Paris-based ceramic artist and sculptor Claire de Lavallée chose from a range of clays to create by hand their natural, organic, no-two-exactly alike shapes. Then they were coated with the artist’s own shimmering glaze, often incorporating materials like talc and chalk.
And wouldn’t you know, they’re your favorite shade of green—that nearly iridescent, bottomless emerald hue you waited eons to be painstakingly handmade into your crocodile Birkin. Sometimes, you just put a thought out into the Universe and…well, there’s a connection here. At one point De Lavallée partnered with Hermès Maison to create the "Genèse" collection. Her design collaborators have also included Kenzo and Daum. And for the Réunion des Musées Nationaux, De Lavallée developed a line of jewelry and ceramic objects inspired by the works of Cézanne, Matisse and Picasso. Nothing less than a master artist would have been allowed.
