This is a small soapstone scholar rock finely carved with figures in a mountainous landscape with a pavilion among trees, winding paths and craggy rocks. The figures are portrayed as travelers wearing hooded capes. The natural stone coloration in beige, tan, rust and grey enhances the sense of depth and atmosphere evoking the idealized scenery prized by scholars for contemplation.
