Bernard Boutet de Monvel (French, 1881-1949) an esteemed French artist born in 1881 in Paris, France. He was known for his geometric paintings, Moroccan paintings, and high society portraits, and his work was associated with the Art Deco movement. Annotated "la carriole”. Tiré à 50 - 200" in pencil. The notation "Tiré à 200, 50" on a signed French print means it is the 50th impression from a limited edition of 200 prints. Proof apart from the edition of 200.
A superb impression with nice coloring. A carriole is a light, horse-drawn vehicle, similar to a cart or carriage. Here we see la carriole from the back presumably carrying passengers along a tree lined road. Bernard Boutet de Monvel shows his use of refined geometric linearity with the tree lined road.
