It is made of calamander wood which is a very heavy, valuable wood from India and Sri Lanka. The name "calamander" comes from coramandel, referring to the Coramandel Coast in India from where it was exported. It is hazel-brown in color with black stripes and has a very hard texture. The bronze mounted tray has a hinged lidded box and two original bronze-mounted hinged cut glass ink jars. The lidded box covers a storage area that measures 10.75 X 6.25 X 1.25. The intricate brass detailing on the box is carried out on the front of the tray and also on the curved well in front. The coromandel patina is fantastic. This lovely piece will add style and interest to any setting. See less
