An exceptional and hard-to-find Set of 8 small Chinese hand-painted Rose Medallion plates. These petite plates are perfect for serving dessert or as a side plate, providing a sophisticated splash of color. Each plate measures 5.5 inches in diameter. Having a complete set of eight in this small size is rare and highly sought after by decorators and collectors.
COLLECTOR'S NOTE:
Each plate in this set is marked "CHINA" on the underside. This specific mark places this collection in the desirable transitional period of the late 19th to early 20th Century (1891–c. 1919), giving the set a true antique-era distinction.
The Rose Medallion pattern celebrates abundance and domestic virtue—a motif beloved by 19th-century Western collectors and still prized today. Each panel tells a story of harmony: elegant court ladies in pavilions alternate with lush peonies and songbirds symbolizing love and renewal.

The set is free from chips, cracks, and heavy staining. Specific Notes on Wear Gilt Wear: There is minor, age-appropriate loss to the gold gilt along the outer rim and the decorative borders. This wear is standard for export porcelain of this era. The glaze remains bright with no signs of heavy crazing (fine network of cracks). Flea Bites: A few of the plates have microscopic chips ("flea bites") on the outer edge of the rim. These are not visible when the plates are stacked or viewed straight on, but they can be felt when running a finger along the edge. This is common production wear for hand-finished rims of this period. less
