DESCRIPTION When I acquired this wonderful primitive tinder box candlestick holder, I opened it up, and lo and behold! Inside was an iron or steel striker or sparker, along with some bits and pieces of very dry and very early tinder cloth! Tin toleware box with an applied handle. Inside is a second lid with an applied tin grip, designed to keep the tinder dry in the lower section, with the striker and probably a flint stored in the upper section. Decorative punched tin hole in the side of the upright candle holder. All hand soldered joints by the local tinsmith.

CONDITION Overall excellent. Great old original surface, with modest oxidation, and a rich, dark tin patina. No defects noted (all visible in the images). A RARE EARLY AMERICAN LIGHTING DEVICE IN PRISTINE CONDITION! See less
