Antique scholars box measures 7” length and 3.5” wide. The Bitong is made from huanghuali wood, a rare and valuable type of rosewood from China. Huanghuali wood is known for its distinctive reddish-brown to golden-yellow color and fine, subtle grain. The wood was highly prized by Chinese scholars for use in items like brush pots, document boxes, and other tabletop articles during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Huanghuali is a protected species, and the wood is extremely rare and valuable today. The item's design, with a curved profile and design details, is characteristic of traditional Chinese craftsmanship. The characters 招財進寶 (zhāo cái jìn bǎo) translate to "ushering in wealth and fortune" or "to attract wealth and treasure." The antique box radiates with a deep warm glow of aged rosewood. See less
