EDITOR'S NOTE
All the chapters in this book are based on articles that originally appeared in Fortune, beginning in September, 1961. Some of the articles were substantially revised in preparing the book, in order to eliminate repetitions and topical references that are no longer of interest, and also to take account of new laws that might affect investors' calculations significantly. However, no attempt has been made to update every figure.
