A pair of 19th Century French Sevres-style hand painted vases.
The vases have a cream-colored body with a light, celestial blue on the neck and base. The central panel on each vase features a hand-painted portrait of a cherub, or "putto," gazing upwards. The vases are adorned with two ornate, scrolling handles on each side, which are a characteristic feature of this style of decorative urn. The porcelain is decorated with extensive and intricate gold gilding, including enamel "jewels" around the central cherub portrait and a Greek key pattern on the neck. These items were created primarily as decorative objects for display in a formal setting, such as a drawing room or a grand mantelpiece, to showcase wealth and artistic taste.
