The entire framework consists of a triple-tiered molding detail that surrounds the final layer of beaded molding which envelopes the actual mirror itself. The mirror is protected by wooden planks on the back side, a traditional method for safekeeping the silvering. The upper shoulders are rounded and no carvings grace the design, making it fluid enough to blend with an enormous variety of different tastes and styles, hence its undying popularity over the ages.
