A stunning antique circa 1890s to very early 1900s heavy copper splayed pot with tin lining and a riveted iron handle, made by Dehillerin for the Grand Hotel in London, England.
The Grand Hotel, on Trafalgar Square, was built between 1882 and 1887. The hotel had seven floors, 500 rooms, a large ballroom and was decorated with Antonio Salviati mosaics. The building was taken over by the British government in World War I to house military officers, and in the 1930s it became a retail headquarters. By 1972, not only had the stone facade weathered, but the whole building was damaged by the new Jubilee Underground line. It was demolished in 1986 and replaced with the similarly styled Grand Buildings.
This is a beautiful handcrafted piece, made to last generations. There are lots of marks and bumps to the outside, as to be expected from a piece that was used in a commercial environment for many decades. The iron handle is sturdy and well-connected. The pan has been polished and re-tinned in our studio and is ready for use! Check out the last photo for a before-and-after studio shot of this beauty.
Measures 7.5” across at the top, 6" across at the base, by almost 3.5” deep, 14” total length including handle. This is a beautiful, commercial quality piece with 2.7-3mm walls. Weighs a bit over 4 pounds 4 ounces.
