The Macey Furniture Co. was founded by Fred Macey in 1892 and merged with the Wernicke Furniture Co. in 1905 to become Globe-Wernicke in 1907. which dates these bookcases to before that time. It is a modular piece of furniture with three separate stacking sections, each with a glass door that lifts up and slides inward to access the contents. These being antique the equalizers that keep the doors moving smoothly and in line are worn and while the doors still move smoothly they move best when they are moved with a hand on either side of the door instead of only one hand pushing from the center. The bookcase is made of mahogany and rests on four legs with a short apron. It features a decorative top cap and three hand hammered brass knobs on the glass doors for operation. Barrister bookcases were designed to be dust-proof and easily transportable, with sections that can be disassembled and stacked. The style became popular in the early 20th century. As with any piece of preowned furniture its condition is commensurate with use and age. Please look carefully at the pictures as they make up an important part of the description.
