All frames of the cabinet are carved from a single plank of wood, including the inside shelf and the drawers. The two front doors are made with a wooden hinge (traditional artistry for furniture making in China) and can be easily removed. The cabinet is handcrafted and constructed with wooden pegs and a tenon structure, a conventional craftsmanship for furniture making in ancient China. Made from the core of Elmwood, the cabinet is excellent and kept in excellent condition. Circa early or 19th century. Original patina and hardware.

Translation of the Chinese Characters on the face of the cabinet:
This pair of panels likely forms a couplet (对联) with poetic and moral significance.
The right side emphasizes peace, learning, and clarity of mind, while the left side praises virtue, filial duty, and harmony with nature.
The two circular seals (印章) near the bottom are decorative and traditional, possibly bearing the artisan’s or poet’s name. See less
