DESCRIPTION Wonderful Native American Nez Perce corn husk bag. Often these are called corn husk bags, even though the primary material is often woven grass (like this one), or a mix of materials such as corn husk, milkweed, wool etc. This one has a single deer hide handle and a deer hide upper edge. Vegetable dyed polychrome diamond and star designs. Bottom edge appears to be hemp. Often these were used for gathering and storing sustenance food such as roots and berries, and for carrying personal belongings. They served as important trade items among tribes including the Nez Perce, Yakima, Cayuse, and others. CONDITION Overall excellent. Very pliable, but structurally sound. No holes, pulls or other damage. Some very minor wear to the top deer hide edge. Nice robust age patina (all visible in the images).
