Pair of exquisite Japanese Imari porcelain chargers, dating to the Meiji period, circa 1880. Each hand-painted with intricate geometric and floral panels in traditional Imari hues of deep cobalt, iron red, and soft gilt. One bears a maker’s mark on the reverse, the other unmarked, as is typical of early hand-thrown examples.
Originally created as display pieces for grand interiors and ceremonial dining, Imari chargers like these reflected Japan’s growing export influence in the late 19th century. Today, they bring a touch of old-world artistry to any space—striking as a wall display, centerpiece, or layered into a fine porcelain collection.
