A serene mid-century coastal landscape composition, painted in oil onto board by the established Swedish artist Richard Björklund (1897–1974), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Malmo Museum, Ystads Art Museum, and others.

this painting captures a cluster of whitewashed houses with red roofs nestled amongst greenery, leading down toward the open expanse of sea. A winding sandy path moves through the centre of the scene, guiding the viewer’s eye from the foreground village to the calm water and distant headlands on the horizon.

Executed in a modernist mid-century style, the artist has reduced forms to bold, simplified shapes, giving the scene a structured yet tranquil quality. The emphasis is on composition and tonal balance rather than fine detail.

The colour palette is harmonious with soft greys and muted blues dominating the sky and water. Deep greens define the trees and foliage, offset by creamy whites of the buildings and the warm terracotta and russet hues of the roofs.

The brushwork is broad, flat, and assured, with blocks of colour laid down in an almost geometric manner. Visible, textured strokes lend energy and tactility to the surface, while the overall handling reinforces the sense of quiet order and calm in the scene.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary gilt frame with an inner linen border. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
