A striking antique Chinese cloisonné-on-bronze vase in the archaistic Hu form, dating to the late Qing or early Republic period (circa 1890–1930).
Expertly crafted with rich hand-applied polychrome enamels in turquoise, green, red, and white, the vase features scrolling lotus and foliate motifs within raised bronze wirework. The background is adorned with finely tooled spiral (leiwen) patterns, echoing the surface of ancient ritual bronzes and lending the piece both historic depth and sculptural presence.
Each shoulder bears a small lion-mask appliqué, a nod to the taotie guardian motif of early Chinese art. The bronze surface has developed a deep, authentic patina, showing gentle oxidation and age-appropriate wear that add to its timeless character.
Unmarked, as typical of Beijing and Canton workshop production from the late 19th to early 20th century. This is an honest, decorative workshop example, not a high-imperial piece, but beautifully crafted and richly colored.
Displays elegantly on a console, mantel, or sideboard — a perfect complement to chinoiserie, eclectic, or global vintage interiors.
