This gracious beauty is a sweetgrass basket tray handcrafted using traditional Gullah basket methods. The tradition of “sewing” sweetgrass baskets in the South Carolina Lowcountry has been going on for more than 300 years. Materials used to create these beauties include sweetgrass, bulrush, palmetto fronds and long leaf pine needles. Coiled bundles of fibrous sweetgrass are held in place by "sewing" through the grass with thin strands of saw palmetto fronds; tight spirals and loops create a basket’s strength and durability. With its rich naturally aged color palette of tan, ecru and almond, this beauty will “play well” with most any design style in today’s modern home. It measures 12½” x 10½” x 3” W/D/H (width taken from handle tip-to-handle tip, left to right); interior 9” x 8½” x 2” W/D/H; weight 11 oz. In excellent condition with minimal age-appropriate wear. Unsigned.

Perfectly suited to serve as a catchall basket tray on an entryway table or as a stylish decorative accent propped up on a plate stand, as seen in some of the photos. Note, iron plate stand is not included.
