This is a mixed media piece that blurs the line between painting and sculpture. In fact, one could go so far as to call this a "combine" comparable in practice and theory to the work of Robert Rauschenberg. Like Rauschenberg's work, this "combine" blurs the boundaries of painting and sculpture. This painting (by an artist named Johnston) features a triangular shaped well at the center. Pieces of plywood (pink and green squares with circular holes), sheets of cardboard, and a black rod float above and within this well. There are areas of the painting that look three dimensional, but are in fact, trompe l'oeil. White and gold squiggly lines seem to be objects attached to the canvas, but they are painted, with shadow to appear 3 dimensional. This painting is a joy to view. The colors, dynamic shapes and compositions exude a celebratory feel. The curious play of flat and dimensional worlds adds literal depth to the piece, making it all the more enjoyable. This Nineteen-Laties stretched canvas mixed media piece is signed "Johnston."

This painting is wired to hang vertically. Given it's abstract nature, you can opt to hang it horizontally as well.
