19th Century Tibetan Silver Mounted Wooden Box
These boxes were used for storing the ingredients needed to prepare betel quid, a mild stimulant, and were often a sign of wealth or status.
The box is made of wood, possibly amboyna wood, with silver metalwork. The silver sections feature intricate floral or foliate patterns created through techniques such as pierced work and filigree. The corners are reinforced with decorative metal plates, and the front and sides have ornate metal overlay. The overall design is highly decorative and showcases the craftsmanship of the period.
It can be used as a trinket or jewelry box but remains a strong piece of history.
