The woman chair features an intricately detailed … Read more An absolutely spectacular pair of vintage figural "Chairacter" chairs, by Altina Schinasi, c.1970's. The woman chair features an intricately detailed illustrated black lace dress and vibrantly colored red and green flowers, with a 3D neckline, face and hair. The man chair features green and pink colored illustrated clothing. He is seen holding a 3D bird with gold accents. The front and back of his face and hair are 3D with intricate detailing. Each chair is constructed of beige colored fiberglass. The woman chair has a slightly more shiny finish than the man chair.

Altina Schinasi (August 4, 1907 – August 19, 1999) was an American sculptor, filmmaker, actress, entrepreneur, window dresser, designer, and inventor. While looking at Henri Cartier-Bresson's photograph of unoccupied chairs, Schinasi was inspired to combine the function of the seat with the form of the sitter. She called these fantastic chairs and benches "chairacters". Schinasi first worked the core in Styrofoam and then sculpted the form in plaster. The fibreglass casts that were the final product were made of the sculpted prototype at a studio and factory in California. Her chairacters were featured on the cover of the Los Angeles Times Magazine.
