"Washday" needlepoint picture, based on Clementine Hunter's "Wash Day" paintings.
Worked by dealer SJM in continental stitch and bargello stitches in wool yarn on 13-mesh interlock canvas. The image of plantation workers doing laundry by hand outdoors is an adaptation of a theme painted by self-taught Louisiana artist Clementine Hunter in the mid 20th century.
Conservation framed in a 2 7/8"w composite frame, with dark brown stained outer frame and inner distressed bronze frame. Overall 18 3/4"h x 19"w; sight 12 1/2"h x 13 1/4"w.
