Here’s a zinger that I purchased in Avignon, but not “sous le pont d'Avignon”.
The Czechs are well known for their “end of day” glass -- so-called because at the end of the day, all the left-over bits of variously colored glass were thrown into the vat and re-heated to make this free-form visual bonanza, a kaleidoscope of color!
But didn’t the French also have left-over glass at the end of their days?
This blazing colored glass is held in place by classic Art Deco nickel-plated brass fittings. You can take out various pieces of chain to shorten the drop if you so choose.
The glass is in perfect condition, the metal has its original, now hundred-year-old patina and is way less shiny than when the plating was first applied; it approximates the look of brushed nickel at this point. You can use any wattage you want in the bowl, as it is equipped with a standard-base American socket. The three satellite shades have candelabra sockets within, each able to use a 60-watt candelabra-based bulb.
Note that you can emphasize the redness of the glass, or de-emphasize it, depending on what size (wattage) bulbs you use. In the main photo a larger watt bulb is used than in the two subsequent pictures. The light that comes from the chandelier is not going to turn your room into "the red room." The light from the bulb in the bowl will reflect off your ceiling and that will be the determining factor of the light in your room.
