Hard-to-find, elegant set of six (6) two-handled, footed cream soup cups with matching underplates in the “Monticello” pattern, made by Steubenville Pottery (Steubenville, Ohio) for Herman C. Kupper, New York, circa 1933–1942.
Each piece features a warm ivory glaze with an intricate gold filigree and scroll border, and raised beaded gilt rim, showcasing the refined American craftsmanship of the late Art Deco era. This is a fine ceramic ware with a high-gloss glaze and hand-applied gold (gilt) trim.
A graceful and timeless set — equally suited for elegant entertaining or display. The Monticello line represented Steubenville’s highest decorative standards, designed to rival imported European china yet proudly American-made.
They are ideal for light soups, consommés, or desserts; they also make beautiful display items in china cabinets or vintage-style kitchens. The footed cups offer visual interest when stacked or arranged.
Cup/bowl diameter, rim to rim: 4.75"
Cup/bow diameter, handle to handle: 5.5"
Cup height: 2"
Underplate diameter: 6.75"
Underplate height: 0.75"
Excellent vintage condition overall, free of chips, cracks, or crazing. There is minor surface wear to the gilt, consistent with gentle age.
