This large stoneware jug is a testament to the enduring utility of traditional design and craftsmanship. Likely originating from a provincial kiln in Asia and dating to the 19th century, its robust form was built for necessity. The jug is defined by its thick, dark, utilitarian glaze and its unique, hand-woven straw or rattan harness, which originally served to protect the vessel and provide a handle for transport of liquids like wine or oil. Measuring an impressive 13.5 inches wide and 18 inches high, this piece is a tangible link to a hardworking past. In a modern setting, the jug serves as a stunning floor or tabletop planter for dramatic foliage, a sculptural accent, or a unique piece of art that brings the adventurous spirit of history into your home.
