Executed in relief, the central reserves depict traditional narrative vignettes—possibly drawn from historical or literary sources—set beneath pavilion roofs and surrounded by floral and bird motifs. Above and below, smaller inset panels are carved with auspicious creatures, flowering branches, and mythical animals including qilins and phoenix-like birds.

The panels are made of hardwood, likely elm or a similar dense native species, with a warm, aged patina highlighting the crispness of the hand-carving. The latticework combines open fret patterns with stylized natural elements such as plum blossoms and birds, allowing for a rich interplay of shadow and depth when installed.

Although originally part of a larger architectural element, these four sections (each measuring 19.25"W x 2"D x 68.5"H) have been preserved as loose panels, offering flexibility in their use—whether mounted as wall art, used as doors, or reassembled into a decorative screen. The craftsmanship and subject matter speak to the enduring elegance of Qing dynasty design, likely late 19th to early 20th century. See less
