The model was produced in the usa by herman miller, and the swiss company vitra took over production for the european market in 1957.

in the late 1960s and 1970s, european examples were marked with the rare double label "herman miller – made by vitra," documenting the close licensing partnership between the two manufacturers. This version, which was only used during this limited period, allows for unambiguous dating and is considered particularly collectible due to its historical significance within the production history.
