We just love this chair. It's unusual on several levels. It's may have delicate features with it's carved swag and tassels details on the blonde burl maple, but this is a chonk of a chair. There is a surprising weight to this piece.

These chairs also adorned the Presidential Suite's dining room.

The underside has the original metal Waldorf Astoria plate.

THE COMPANY OF MASTER CRAFTSMEN
Founded in 1825, W. J. Sloane Company was a prominent furniture and rug store in New York City that catered to the prominent, including the White House and the Breakers, and wealthy, including the Rockefeller, Whitney, and Vanderbilt families.
In 1925 a subsidiary, The Company of Master Craftsmen founded by William Sloane Coffin, Sr. (the father of Rev. William Sloane Coffin) to create colonial revival furniture. During World War II the company worked with the Newport News Company and the North Carolina Shipbuilding Company on shipbuilding contracts for the United States Navy fitting out the interiors of liberty ships under the direction of John Sloane Griswold. WALDORF ASTORIA NYC
The Waldorf Astoria opened it doors in 1931. Since then every living president has stayed in this hotel. Rock stars, movie stars, royalty, and everyone else in the jet set lifestyle has stayed within those famous walls. When the hotel was originally built, it was the tallest hotel in the world and boasted 1417 rooms. The largest suite in the hotel was lived in by Cole Porter. Once Cole Porter passed away Nancy and Frank Sinatra lived there. None other than The Who was banned for life for their ruckus behaviour, but reinstated once the Waldorf was hosting the Rock N Roll hall of fame induction ceremony and The Who was being inducted. Talk about a thumbing of the nose!
