A striking and intricately detailed silver box featuring a high-relief repoussé figure of a mythological guardian, likely created in Tibet or South India in the late 19th to early 20th century. The stylized, muscular creature—part lion, part serpent—appears coiled and alert, adorned with ceremonial jewelry and scaled body armor, possibly representing a snow lion, makara, or yali—beings revered for their protective and auspicious powers in both Hindu and Tibetan Buddhist traditions.

The lid lifts to reveal a finely chased interior, bordered with scrolling lotus and foliate designs. The base rests on three rounded, felted feet, suggesting the piece was designed for placement on a domestic altar, ritual surface, or vanity table. Crafted using traditional repoussé and chasing techniques, the silver surface shows a deep patina that enhances its sculptural richness and age.
