19th century painting of a young boy sitting beside his goat and cart. Goat carts were very popular with children throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.
The wicker goat carts were mostly made in France and imported for the upper echelon families all over Europe. This painting has a background scene of rolling and lush hilly terrain with a river in the distance. The child is dressed I a lovely navy blue coat, trimmed in what appears to be velvet and finished with a lovely handmade lace collar, further accentuating the prosperity of his family and position in society.
This is a lovely painting with great color and perspective.
