Offering a whimsical LARGE pair of hand painted Chinese intentionally crackled porcelain monkeys, circa Late 20th Century, both signed on bottom Wong Lee 1895. This date is part of the Wong Lee logo and does not reflect the age of the candlesticks as they were manufactured in the 1970s during the influx of Chinese export of the Nixon years.
These particular candlesticks are extremely well executed and are hand painted Chinese porcelain with bronze ormolu style bases. The monkeys are adorned with British 19th Century attire wearing a magenta top coat with hand painted butterflies, dragonflies, flowers, leaves and fruits sitting on a green grassy mound. They are wearing a decorative vest with light blue knickers and are very reminiscent of Mottahedeh Duke of Gloucester exotic designs with insects and butterflies.
EXCELENT VINTAGE CONDITION. No chips, no cracks, no damage of any kind whatsoever! ... Just perfect. NOTE: One monkey is slightly larger than the other and has black eyes and a red tongue, while the other has brown eyes and a brown tongue. Please see measurements below.
