A grand and versatile example of American hotel silver, this large footed salver tray was crafted by Dodge, Inc. of Los Angeles, active from the 1940s.
Measuring an impressive 16 inches in diameter, the tray features a 1-inch deep recessed well with an array of uses; hors d'oeuvres, meats, vegetables, securing a tureen, or as a centerpiece. Raised on four scrolled feet, it elevates whatever it holds while protecting surfaces beneath. The wide border is richly decorated in the Rococo Revival style, with scrolling foliage, grape clusters, and shell motifs.
Stamped on the underside with the “Queen Victoria” crest, a Dodge, Inc. trade mark, this piece was made for both elegance and heavy use — the hallmark of hotel silver.
