A fine example of a rare unknown maker Staffordshire pottery jasperware jug which has which has become known by the shape of the base mark, as chrysanthemum.
The jug is off white sprig applied on a light beige base combining hunting scenes with an incongruous dolphin head spout and snake handle. The base is marked 15. A lot of speculation abounds regarding this pottery, but to date, nobody has been able to determine the identity of the potter, except that he existed between 1810-1830.
Further Research has led us to believe that this is a Brameld Rockingham Pottery piece.
19th C. Chrysanthemum Factory Co. Jasperware Jug. The jug is a light beige earthenware smear glazed body with off white sprigs depicting detailed hunting scenes. The spout is a dolphin head with open mouth and the tail flows around and becomes the handle.
Several Staffordshire makers used moulded floral pads with a single letter as a factory or mould identification mark (for example, Ridgway, Davenport, or J. G. Meakin in the mid-1800s).
